A hospital isn’t just a building; it’s a place where individuals and families seek advice, comfort and expertise they can rely upon. Above all, it’s a place where excellence of care is expected and a mistake can have significant implications for all involved.
Accreditation is a strategic business tool that helps hospitals live up to – and surpass - these expectations. Whether mandated by law, or embrace voluntarily to build prestige, accreditation is a valuable asset to any hospital. Challenges for the modern healthcare system are constantly increasing, from advances in the complexity of treatment through to ageing populations. Accreditation provides a systematic way to manage the risks that come with these challenges.
DNV is rapidly expanding its hospital accreditation services. Over 250 hospitals in the US have now switched to the new NIAHO® accreditation delivered by DNV. This standards platform, which is also the basis of DNV International Accreditation, is changing the perception of what accreditation is and how it can be used by hospitals to achieve optimum performance.
DNV provide the dedicated assessment team for all hospitals in England on behalf of the NHS Litigation Authority (NHSLA). The NHSLA Risk Management Standards schemes seek to improve patient care and safety, and encourage a proactive approach to risk management. Assessments are undertaken alongside an extensive programme of support and guidance to help embed risk management in a way that works for each individual organisation.
DNV works with Macmillan Cancer Support to assess the Macmillan Quality Environment Mark (MQEM) for cancer care centres through the United Kingdom. The MQEM recognises facilities that give those affected by cancer the optimum environment for their treatment to take place. The MQEM is built on patient and stakeholder input, and focuses on dignity, comfort and respect for those using a service.
